SMOKE DANCE

She dances nightly
everyone standing
clear

as she twirls
into a nude
blur

laughing
ignition
of fire

flames
stroking
onlookers

out into the dead of night.

PIT

They promise us
what
we want to hear,
and do what
we don’t want
in back rooms,
filled with our
tax money,
draining
into their pit
kingdom
