LOST BOY

Hovering just
above the
asphalt
lost in haze
thunder
on this
invisible
semi conscious
glide,
rain
causing
the machinery
to spark and
short
pregnant
in this
prison mind
birthing
unfortunate
thoughts
praying for
another
sweet dream
the storm shelter is
locked,
lying so
still
and floating
in the flood,
breathing through
a used straw

SWIMMING HOLE

Along this strand
of pacific coast highway,
horns blaring
cars slowed in a line
newly paroled,
my father waves
his filter less
cigarette
out the window
the other hand
producing fuck you
sign language
in the rear view

we’re en route
to the swimming hole,
the endless sea
trying to swallow us
with its arms of
bitter weeds
the alcove a tower
of rocks that the waves
tear angrily into
we stick our knees
in the cold foaming
salt water
pop lighting another
one with the last one
puffing life’s lessons
and missteps
beneath this hazy sun
