I CAN WRITE ANYWHERE

want to bet?
in fact
i work

better under pressure
constraint
strait jackets and shackles

cannot contain
my free hand
or knack for free verse

i can write anywhere
it sometimes hurts
because even with

toothbrush in hand
white froth swirling in my teeth
either hand with a nib between

my fingers
can still etch
words on paper

you would like to read
so forgive me if
the paper is sopping wet

blood-stained
mud-caked or
cum-sprayed

even with both legs
splayed out for a stranger
i swear

i can
write
anywhere.

I LAID DOWN ON YOUR STOMACH

and heard you laugh.

i mean yes
i’d heard your raucous
guttural roar
before
emerging whole and fully formed
from the back of your throat

but lying there on your belly
and listening to you
tell jokes you’d already repeated
many a night ago
and really being that close
to the source of where all that joy
and rapture
and glee
mingling with all that
beer
and candy
and popcorn

just really feeling that laugh
ferment itself in your tummy
gurgling and softly chuckling
pure like a newborn’s belly

i guess
just feeling
that laugh and knowing
where it came from
made me
want to be close
and closer to you

dwelving into places of you
i’d never been before
furtherin than the happy abdomen
bouncing my head up and down

bobbing my neck and
i couldn’t help it
i laughed
as well.
